Brazilian sinologist and translator Giorgio Erick Sinedino de Araujo, an assistant professor at the Department of Portuguese, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the University of Macau, has been living in China since 2005. For the last decade, he has called Macao his home, embracing the city's unique role as a cultural bridge between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

Sinedino says Macao has a special mission to promote Chinese culture abroad, and he sees himself playing a role in that. The city's deep historical ties and dynamic development have provided him with the ideal environment to pursue his vision of intercultural connection.

Looking forward to the China-Brazil Year of Culture in 2026, Sinedino is working on a new translation and commentary of The Art of War, one of the most influential texts in the world. This timeless Chinese classic, renowned for its wisdom and adaptability, has influenced fields as diverse as personal relations, business management and military strategy.

Sinedino hopes his translation will not only bring the classic to a wider audience in Brazil but also deepen mutual understanding between Chinese and Brazilian cultures during this milestone year.
